It's Magic You Know

I've posted pictures from our week-long vacation in Jacksonville, FL here. In spite of inclement weather (Hurricane Fay) and a dog that could make one homicidal, we had a great time at Grandma Lani's house. And here are a few pictures that would lead a person to believe that we had blue skies all week. That's what I love about photography. It retells the story better than it really happened. It was perfect. Minus the hurricane. Minus the (sigh) dog.





Terry was in charge of all things digital this trip as I pulled out the 35mm again (after a stint of virtual memory-making), hoping to rekindle my love affair with film. It worked, if for no other reason than holding, that's right- touching, photographs again. And that element of surprise. I love the surprise. Will this roll be blurry and over saturated? Did I capture my kids' cuteness at the right moment? Did I just waste $20 on a few rolls of bad photographs? More often than not, even though you can see the image you've taken after you've taken it on a digital camera, film catches that spontaneity that's so wonderful. I realized how many photos I delete immediately (like without thinking) on a digital camera. As far as the cuteness of my kids went, I couldn't believe the number of weird faces they make when a camera appears. Faces that would have surely been deleted on the spot if I'd had the option.
